Always check these for tears or peeling. Over time mastic silicone becomes brittle and looses its ability to seal the wall with the shower tray or bath. Failing mastic seals are probrably the most common cause of water leaks and should be renewed every 5/6 years or sooner if faulty. A good quality silicone mastic will outlast a cheaper alternative.
Always ventilate the room by opening a window or ensure that the extractor fan is working whilst using the shower. You will not be able to completely stop this, only slow the process down. A permanent solution may be to replace the tiling with Multipanel wall boards which means there will be know grout to go black.
Plumber on tap recommends Multipanel shower wall panels. They are made in a wide range of attractive finishes and provide a great alternative to ceramic tiles. No grout to discolour, and less chance of water leaks over time.
